For years I have been a free-lance writer specializing in marine journalism. I began with articles published in National Fisherman, then branched out with articles in Sailing World, Sailing, The Compass, 48 North and even Private Pilot(about the search for the crew of a missing troller off the Oregon Coast). In the past three years, I have concentrated on a book, On Going to Sea, about the delivery I made of one of the first king crab fishing vessels built in Mobile, Alabama for the burgeoning king crab fishery in Alaska. (This is a story of adventure and near sinking of the vessel.) This book is to be published by Washington State University under their new imprint, Basalt Books. On Going to Sea periodically references quotes from Youth by Joseph Conrad and Moby Dick by Herman Melville.
